China Glaze My Little Pony Collection - Swatches & Review

Tuesday 4 July 2017

I was super excited when I saw that China Glaze was doing a My Little Pony Collection.  I was a HUGE My Little Pony fan when I was a little girl and my daughter is now a huge My Little Pony fan too.  I haven't told her about this collection yet because she will take them and keep them.  Lol.  This collection consists of twelve limited edition polishes plus a special edition duo that comes with a set of 'best friends' rings.  So cute!  Anyway, let's get into the swatches shall we?

Applejack Of My Eye is described as a red orange creme.  The formula of this one is great.  It applies really evenly and is really glossy.  My swatch shows two coats, however I am questioning if I should have done a third coat.

Cutie Mark The Spot is a pistachio mint green creme.  Love this one!  The colour is gorgeous and the formula is great.  I used two coats for my swatch.

Hay Girl Hay! is described as a celestial holographic glitter.  Now I am not sure where the 'holographic' glitter is in this.  Maybe I am missing it.  It looks a little more iridescent to me.  Whatever you want to call it it is stunning.  I think it would look so good over so many different colours.  It also has a good formula.  I used one coat over Cutie Mark The Spot.

I Just Canterlot has a purple tinted base with holographic glitters.  This is so sparkly and so pretty.  I am a big fan.  It is quite sheer so next time I would use it over a purple base colour.  My swatch shows three coats.

I Sea Ponies is described as a silver holographic chrome.  This is quite an interesting polish.  I have quite a few silver holo polishes in my collection, but I don't think I have one like this.  It's definitely not as holo as most polishes and it does have a slight chrome effect.  The formula is easy to use but it does leave behind visible brush strokes.  My swatch shows two coats.

Kill 'em With Kindness is a soft yellow creme.  This is such a gorgeous yellow.  As expected, it does apply uneven and needs three coats to even out.

Let Your Twilight Sparkle has a sheer blue base with shifting blue to purple shimmer.  This one is so pretty, but it is really sheer.  I don't think it could ever build up to be opaque.  I layered it over white, however I think it would be so much prettier over a blue or even a purple base.  I used two coats over white for my swatch.

One Polished Pony is described as a turquoise frost.  I wouldn't really describe this as a frost.  It looks like a blue creme with a silver shimmer throughout.  The formula is great and easy to use.  My swatch shows two coats.

She's A Mane-iac is a hot pink satin.  No surprise that I love the colour of this one.  I'm not sure I like it without the top coat (I think polishes should either be matte or shiny - not somewhere in between).  The formula is easy to work with.  I used three coats for my swatch.

Sweet As Pinkie Pie is a bubbly pastel pink creme.   Such a nice colour, although to be picky I wish it was a little brighter to match Pinkie Pie.  The formula is uneven and needs three coats to even out completely.

Too Busy Being Awesome is a cerulean blue creme.  I love this colour and the formula is awesome.  It is so close to being a one coater.  Sadly, this one does leave a light staining (and gives you smurf hands) so I definitely recommend doubling up on your base coat.  My swatch shows two coats.

Where's The Party Canon At? is a fuchsia base with holographic glitter.  Love this one!  It's such a gorgeous colour and is so sparkly!  The formula is great and is opaque in three coats.  If you have shorter nails (or not super fussy like me) you could easily do two coats.

Special Edition Duo
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post there is also a special edition duo which comes with a set of 'best friends' rings.

Best Ponies Forever is described as a soft gold chrome.  This is easy to use and has visible brush strokes.  I used two coats for my swatch.

Songbird Serenade is described as an electrifying black shimmer.   There are so many different colours in this black base.  It is really pretty.  The shimmers are definitely more noticeable in the bottle than on the nail but you can definitely see them in the right light.  I am a big fan!  The formula is amazing and you could easily get away with one coat.  I used two coats for my swatch.

Overall I am a huge fan of this collection.  The colours are great and the formulas are pretty good.  There isn't anything in her that I would say I don't like.  My personal favourites would have to be Too Busy Being Awesome (just remember to double up on your base coat to avoid staining!), Cutie Mark The Spot, Hay Girl Hay!, I Just Canterlot, Where's The Party Canon At? and Songbird Serenade.

What do you think of this collection?  Will you be picking any up?

  1. Thanks so much for the swatches Tracy! I SO want some of these & I reckon this is CG's best collection since Lite Brites last summer. I've got too many favourites, but my absolute fave is Too Busy Being Awesome. Love the colour & the name.

    1. No problems. I really enjoyed swatching this collection. I think I would have to agree that this is definitely one of the best CG collections in a while (well except the Spring Pastels - I love that collection!). If you do end up grabbing Too Busy Being Awesome make sure you double up on your base coat. It does stain! But the colour and the formula make it all worthwhile :)

  2. I was expecting a lot more pastels, coming from the name of this collection. But I'm pleasantly surprised at how gorgeous these colors are! Amazing swatches, as always <3

    1. Thank you! Part of me was expecting more lighter and brighter colours too but I did see the trailer for the new MLP movie that is coming out later this year and it has a bit of a darkness to it so maybe that's why? The colours are stunning though!

  4. I wasn't sure about this collection until I saw your swatches and now I'm so excited for it. Let Your Twilighy Sparkle is one I NEED.
Its a shame these polishes didn't come with little My Little Pony Horses.

    1. The PR packages in the US have a little Rainbow Dash in them that look super cute. Our house definitely does not need any more MLP. We have hundreds of them in various sizes, and castles! So many castles and houses!

Let Your Twilight Sparkle is awesome. I think if I had swatched it over something other than white I would love it more. It was definitely one I was most excited to try when I got the collection :)
