Orly Melrose Collection - Swatches & Review

Wednesday 9 March 2016

A little while ago I was thinking about my blog and the different brands that I have shown on here versus what I actually own.  Apparently I like to stick to the same brands, not that that is a bad thing.  They are just the brands that I either buy a lot of or ones that I am lucky enough to work with (mind you I would probably being buying the majority of those polishes anyway).  Anyway, it occurred to me that I have only ever done one Orly blog post before.  While my Orly collection isn't the biggest, I do really like their polishes.  In fact, my all time favorite neon yellow polish is the one and only Orly Glowstick.  So much love for that polish.  Fast forward to a random online shopping day, I stumbled across the new Melrose Spring Collection and just had to have it!  Now I am sharing it with you.

Beautifully Bizarre is a very light baby pink with a blue iridescent shimmer.  I'm really loving the really like pinks lately.  They just look so clean and fresh.  Anyway I love this polish.  Pictures don't really do it justice.  In fact, you can barely see the blue shimmer in my pictures because my camera turns them white.  The formula is great and easy to use.  I used three coats for my swatch, however you can get away with two coats if you don't mind a slight visible nail line.

Feel The Funk is a pinkie purple shimmer base with holographic glitters.  Really pretty, but is quite sheer especially at the tips.  The formula is easy to use.  I used three coats for my swatch (there is still a slight visible nail line).

Hip And Outlandish is a turquoise creme.  Now this one my camera did not like at all.  In fact, my camera turned this polish blue/teal.  I did edit my picture so it looks more like the colour is in person, but it's still not 100% accurate.  I have included another picture which represents the colour more accurately.  Anyway the formula is great and easy to use.  It also stamps quite well.  My swatch is of two coats.

Trendy is a peach with silver shimmer.  When I purchased this collection, this is the colour that I was most excited by, mind you I didn't realize it had shimmer in so was a little disappointed when it arrived.  Sadly, the shimmer is not the most disappointing part about this polish.  I always try to say nice things where I can but sadly the formula on this polish is horrible.  It's probably one of the worst formulas I have come across.  I don't really even know how to describe it.  It applies really thick and lumpy, it's uneven and clumps.....really it's just horrible.  I definitely don't recommend this one at all.  It also separates quite quickly in the bottle too.  My swatch shows two coats.

Vintage is a mint green creme.  Now this one is really pretty.  I particularly love it on my toes (and normally I wear more pinks, purples and corals on my toes - no idea why).  The formula is great and so easy to use.  I used two coats for my swatch.

Window Shopping is a bright magenta pink with red undertones.  This one looks darker on the nails than it does in the bottle.  The formula is great and close to being a one coater.  I am pretty sure that it will stamp also.  I used two coats for my swatch.

Overall I quite like this collection (with the exception of Trendy).  I think the colours are great and the formulas are really nice.  My personal favorites are Beautifully Bizarre, Feel The Funk and Vintage.

What are some brands or things you would like to see on my blog?

  1. I love your blog the way it is BUT I especially love your stamping plate reviews. I would love to see more Orly. Their collections are smaller and thus more affordable...for me. Almost forgot, the color comparisions are fantastic posts.

    1. I really do need to do more comparison posts don't I? They do take a little longer for me to do but I do really like them. I can do more stamping plate reviews - it will be a good excuse to buy more plates lol. And as for Orly, I definitely will be doing more posts with them. In fact, I have their latest Pacific Coast Highway collection in transit to me already :)
