What's Up Nails Desert Monsoon Collection - Swatches & Review

Tuesday, 8 June 2021

 PRESS SAMPLE

What's Up Nails have recently expanded their range to include regular nail polish!  I was so excited when they reached out to me and asked if I would like to try them.  I am a big fan of their stamping polishes (and plates) so of course I was curious to try out their regular polish.  This six piece collection is called the Desert Monsoon Collection and was released along side an eyeshadow palette and make up brushes.  Now I don't have the eyeshadow palette or the make up brushes but I do have the polishes to share with you.

Desert Rose is a light pink crelly with gold shimmer.  This is a really pretty and soft colour.  The formula is easy to use and applies evenly.  For my swatch I used three coats.

Downpour is a blue chrome shimmer with iridescent blue to purple duochrome shimmer.  I love the colour of this one.  It's gorgeous.  The formula is also great and easy to use.  My swatch shows two coats.

Joshua Tree is a light brown creme.  This is a nice shade with an amazing formula.  My swatch shows one coat.

Succulent is a purple crelly with pink to purple iridescent duochrome flakes and holographic flakies.  This is another polish that I love.  The colour is beautiful and the formula is good.  For my swatch I used three coats, however you can stop at two coats.

Sun is a gold chrome shimmer with iridescent gold to green duochrome shimmer.  This is quite an interesting shade but I am not sure I am a fan of it on my nails.  The formula is easy to work with however it does make for really messy clean up.  The shimmer also stuck to my fingers and would budge!  I used three coats for my swatch but you can stop at two coat.

Tempest is a mauve creme.  I'm really on the fence with this one.  I'm not sure if I like it or I don't.  The formula is great and is opaque in one coat.

This collection gives me mixed feelings.  There are a couple of polishes that I love (Downpour and Succulent), the cremes have amazing formulas and a couple of polishes I'm on the fence whether I like the colours.  But that's just my personal thoughts.  What do you think of this collection?

The Desert Monsoon Collection is available now from What's Up Nails.

What's Up Nails B051 I Just Want Sushi Stamping Plate - Swatches & Review

Thursday, 28 May 2020

Today I have the last of the What's Up Nails that I was sent to review.  I have had a lot of fun and found some new favourites with these products.  I definitely can recommend both stamping plates and stamping polishes from What's Up Nails.  Let's take a look at the I Just Want Sushi stamping plate shall we?
Image from What's Up Nails
I love the dragon image on this plate so it was definitely the first thing I needed on my nails.  It is quite large which unfortunately meant I lost a fair bit of it on my nails but I do like the result still.  For my base I used Emily de Molly Fade Into Black, Moyra's White Foil Stamping Polish and their Gold Foil.  I then topped it all off with Hit The Bottle's Water Tight Top Coat.

I was considering doing a gradient with one of the scene images but I couldn't quite decide how I wanted to do it so I decided to use the little sushi image instead.  I mean you can't have a sushi plate and not use the sushi image can you?  For my base I used OPI Love Is On The Cards and Don't Speak and stamped using Hit The Bottle As Black As Night.

This plate isn't a favourite of mine but there are some great images for the theme.  It also stamps beautifully as well.

The I Want Sushi Stamping Plate is available now from What's Up Nails.

What's Up Nails B039 Geometric Trance Stamping Plate - Swatches & Review

Tuesday, 19 May 2020

Hello!  I feel like it has been ages since I sat down and blogged.  Really it hasn't been that long but I have been behind in painting my nails (life has been really busy that by the end of the day I either don't have time to do my nails or I just can't be bothered).  So to make up for lack of nail time I have had recently I spent the full day on Saturday swatching away like a crazy person.  I now about a hundred pictures to edit.  Yay for me!  Anyway, today I have the Geometric Trance Stamping Plate from What's Up Nails to share with you guys.
Image from What's Up Nails
I love this image!  I thought it would look cool with a really shifty base.  I love how this turned.  Next time I will definitely try it with a gradient base because that would look awesome too!  For my base I used Emily de Molly LE130 and stamped using Hit The Bottle As Black As Night.

I actually had a couple of ideas for this next image.  I think even though it is really simple in its design that it has so much potential for some awesome manis.  For my base I used Color Club East Austin and double stamped using Hit The Bottle's Snowed In and As Black As Night.

I am a big fan of this plate.  There are some really great images on it (I do love geometric nails!) and I am excited to play with it some more.  The images all pick up and transfer well to the nails.

The Geometric Trance Stamping Plate is available now from What's Up Nails.

What's Up Nails B047 Everyday Is Caturday Stamping Plate - Swatches & Review

Friday, 8 May 2020

The important questions in life - are you a dog person or a cat person?  I personally like cats better than dogs.  Don't take that to mean I don't like dogs because I do, I just like cats more.  We have two cats in our family.  Max and Sampi.  Both equally as adorable and have very different personalities.  Anyway, I am getting side tracked here.  Today I have the Everyday Is Caturday (which it very much is in my house) stamping plate from What's Up Nails to share with you.

Image from What's Up Nails
This first mani is kinda inspired by my cat Sampi.  She is a beautiful tortoiseshell cat with lots of black and browns/nudes.  She also has a similar looking face to the cat with the black patch on its face.    For my base I used Emily de Molly Faux Creme and stamped using Hit The Bottle As Black As Night.

Now you can't go past the magical caticorns can you?  Such beautiful magical creatures.  For my base I sponged on Pretty Serious Cosmetics Fluffykins, Bunny Foo-Foo, Doodlebug, Cutie Patootie, Little Duckling and Peachie Poo and stamped using Hit The Bottle As Black As Night.

I think this is a super cute plate but it's not one that I would grab for on a day to day basis.  It's just not my style.  The images themselves stamp beautiful.

The Everyday Is Caturday stamping plate is available now from What's Up Nails.

What's Up Nails B045 Simple Shapes Stamping Plate - Swatches & Review

Saturday, 2 May 2020

Happy May everyone.  I feel like this month may be quite an interesting one but not necessarily in a good way.  But hopefully I am wrong.  Anyway, today I have another plate from What's Up Nails called Simple Shapes which as the name suggests is a plate full of simple shapes.

Image from What's Up Nails
For this first mani I couldn't go past the zig zags/chevrons.  I think these types of patterns are some of my favourite types to wear on my nails.  I kept it nice and simple but OMG I love this mani!  I wore it for few days because I simply didn't want to take it off.  For my base I used Grace-full Nail Polish Blue Oasis and stamped using What's Up Nails Jay For A Day.

I was in a bit of a nail funk the day I did this mani.  It was one of those days where I needed/wanted to do a new mani but had no clue what to do.  I couldn't decided if I wanted something simple or something a little more 'fancy', some bright or dark, glitter or no glitter....anyway I eventfully went for Color Club Modern Pink, Emily de Molly Bright Retreat, China Glaze I'd Melt For You and A-England Merlin.  I LOVE this mani and think it will be staying on for a few days.

While this isn't the type of plate that I would normally gravitate towards I actually love it!  Yes you can do some really fancy stuff with it (think like gradients and layering) but I really love it for the simplicity of the designs.  I can see me grabbing for this a fair bit.

The Simple Shapes stamping plate is available now from What's Up Nails.

What's Up Nails Mixed Stamping Polishes - Swatches & Review

Thursday, 23 April 2020

After a few not so happy blog posts about What's Up Nails stickers (if you haven't seen those posts then long story short - the colours are really cool but the stickers don't stick on my curved nails so I personally can't recommend them) I have some awesome things to talk about - their stamping polishes!  I was lucky enough to be sent eight of their stamping polishes in a few finishes and I am so impressed!  Like with my other stamping polish posts I have stamped each polish over a white base and a black base so that it hopefully gives you an idea how each of these perform over light and dark polishes.  Stamping image is from What's Up Nails Geometric Trance.

Buff Is The Stuff is a beige creme stamping polish.  I love this one!  I think the colour is fantastic and it stamps beautifully over both white and black.

Fab Cab is a yellow creme stamping polish.  Again this is an awesome stamping polish.  It's great over both black and white.

Hotter Than Red is a metallic red stamping polish.  This is definitely so much better in person than in my swatch.  It is a stunning red!  While it stamps well over both black and white I do prefer it over the white.

Jay For A Day is a blue creme stamping polish.  Seriously love the colour of this one!  It doesn't look the greatest over black but OMG it is amazing over light colours (especially blue!  You'll see that mani soon).

Purrple Kitty is a purple creme stamping polish.  Seriously in love with this one too.  Again, it's not the greatest over black (definitely not terrible) but it's so good over white.

Roses Are Gold is a rose gold metallic stamping polish.  This is absolutely stunning both over white and black.

Silver Ag-ent is a silver metallic stamping polish.  You can't go wrong with silver stamping polishes and this one is awesome.

Sundae Topping is a dark brown creme stamping polish.  I'm not particularly a fan of this colour over black or white (personal taste) but it is definitely a great brown for certain types of nail art.

I love What's Up Nails stamping polishes!  They have a great range of colours and finishes and they stamp beautifully.  You can purchase their stamping from the What's Up Nail website.

What's Up Nails Botanical Garden Stickers (Pink & Holo) - Swatches & Review

Monday, 20 April 2020

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope the weekend was good to you.  This week is my first full week of remote learning/home schooling or whatever you want to call it with my daughter so let's hope it goes nice and smoothly.  Anyway, today I have the last of the What's Up Nails stickers to share with you.  This time I have the Botanical Gardens stickers in Pink and Holo.

Image from What's Up Nails (Holo)

Image from What's Up Nails (Pink)
If you saw my other post with the other What's Up Nails Sticker (you can see that here if you aren't too sure what I am talking about) then you will know that I have trouble with stickers actually sticking to my nails.  With that in mind I thought I would have more success using a small solid sticker.  I tried sticking them in different spots on my nails to see if that made a difference.  I think the result was a little better but they still don't stick done fully.  I do love the colours in these stickers and would love a polish that was like this so I could paint my nails fully with it.  For my base I used OPI Suzi Shops & Island Hops.

I love these holo stickers!  The holo of them is insane!  Sadly I didn't have to correct weather for these babies so you will just have to trust me when I say that the holo is insane!  As you can tell from my picture these leaves do not stick to my nails at all.  I even tried to stick it down with a sticky base.  Polish used is Grace-full Nail Polish Mintie.

I really wished that these stickers would have worked for me because the colours are so pretty.

The Botanical Gardens Stickers are available now from What's Up Nails.

What's Up Nails Dripping Flames Stickers (Blue & Orange) - Swatches & Review

Tuesday, 14 April 2020

It has been a loooooooong time since I have used any form of sticker, vinyl or decal on my nails (I don't even recall the last time I have done it).  What's Up Nails sent me some their stickers to try.  I was sent two colours of the Dripping Flames stickers (which I will be sharing with you today) and two colours of the Botanical Garden stickers which will share in a few days.

Image from What's Up Nails (blue)

Image from What's Up Nails (orange)
You can't have orange flames and not use those can you?  I love these colour and shift of these stickers and I think they look really cool but they just don't work for my curved nails.  I'm not sure if you can really tell with this particular mani (but you can definitely tell in the next mani) but these don't stick fully to my nails.  My nails are curved which is usually the issue but these stickers may be a little too ridge or maybe not sticky enough for them to stay on.  I used two really thick coats of Seche Vite for this mani.

I really like the colour of these stickers.  I wished that there was some magical polish (and not a gel related product) that I could have this colour and shine as a full mani.  That would be amazing!  As you can see by my mani I couldn't get these stickers to stick to my nails at all.  Again, I'm not sure if it because of the curve on my nails, the stickers are too ridged or they aren't sticky enough.  Perhaps it's a combination of the three.  For my base I used China Glaze Born To Rule.

I really want to like this stickers but sadly they don't work well for me.  They do look cool and the colours are awesome so if you have flat nails then you might have more success than I did.

The Dripping Flames Stickers are available now from What's Up Nails.
