Flakie Friday - Femme Fatale Cosmetics Pyramids On Mars

Friday, 29 May 2015

I have decided that today will be my last Flakie Friday....for now.  I'm sure they will be back in the future or just completely randomly.  Why you may wonder.  Well as I was unpacking my many, many polishes from the move I was overwhelmed by how many beautiful polishes I have sitting in my drawers that I am still yet to wear.  It's so sad.  So that will be changing.  Be prepared for lots of random swatch spam coming.

For today's Flakie Friday I decided to pull out the newest flakie in my collection - Femme Fatale's Pyramid's On Mars.  This polish is a deep purple jelly with orange/gold/green/blue flakies and red shimmer and is this months Colour Of The Month.  I absolutely love this polish.  Super easy to use and looks so stunning.  Pictures really just don't do it justice.  I used two coats for my swatch.

Soooooo pretty.  I'm really looking forward to trying the other releases from May.  I plan on doing that over the weekend so fingers crossed I can.  Nothing like having new pretties to play with.  What have you got planned for the weekend?

Flakie Friday - Picture Polish Holiday

Friday, 22 May 2015

Happy Friday everyone!  Hope the week has treated you well and you have some exciting things planned for the weekend.  Today I am introducing piCture pOlish to my blog.   I have actually been using piCture pOlish for a few years now so they aren't actually new to me but I don't think they have ever been seen on my blog before.  piCture pOlish have actually released some flakie polishes in the past but I don't actually own any.  I did however manage to get my hands on Holiday, a special limited edition polish.

Holiday is a scattered holograpic and flakie topper.  It applies beautifully and has a great glitter payoff.  I used one coat over piCture pOlish Electric Blue.

Of course there is a mattified version.

I really love this combination of polishes and the mix of holographic glitters and flakies.  It's so pretty.  I definitely prefer the shiny version of this mani.  Which is your favorite?  Matte or shiny?

Surprisingly this polish is actually still available from piCture pOlish.

Flakie Friday - Femme Fatale Cosmetics Ever Elusive

Friday, 15 May 2015

Don't you just hate when you get new polishes and you don't have the time to play with them?  Well that's what happened to me with Femme Fatale's Ever Elusive (and the Snow White inspired polishes - I am hoping to swatch them before the end of this month if time allows).  I am so happy I finally had a chance to try this polish.

Ever Elusive is the April 2015 group exclusive for Femme Fatale Fiends (you can join here so you don't miss out on any other group exclusives, sneak peeks of new collections or other fun stuff).  This polish is a sheer crelly mauve base with pink-copper-gold-green flakies, gold holo and pink accents.  While this is a sheer polish, it can be built up for full coverage in four coats which is shown in my pictures.

I love this polish and all the colour shifts in it.  I can't wait to try layering it over different coloured bases.  I still haven't unpacked my matte top coat so I was unable to see it mattified this time, but next time I wear it I will have to add a matte top coat.  Did you manage to pick this polish up?  If so, what layering combinations have you tried?

Flakie Friday - Finger Paints Asylum

Friday, 8 May 2015

Today our belongings will hopefully be arriving which means we get to move into our new house.  Yay!  We will be staying in hotels and apartments until we our stuff arrives.  It will be nice to be settled  and to have all our stuff back (read as I will have all my polishes back).  You will need to bare with me for a little longer while I settle in and unpack but then I will be back to more regular blogging and back to my daily Instagram life.

Now seems today is Friday it means it's time for Flakie Friday again.  I love pulling out all the different flakies that are hiding away in the drawers.  I own three Finger Paints flakies and I don't think I have actually tried any of them until now.  I think Asylum was a good one to start with.  I painted the first coat on over black but the flakies were was too sparse for my liking so I sponged more one.

And the mattified version.

I love the colours in this one.  It does look mainly red and blue on the nail but it does turn into other colours depending on the angle of the nail and the lighting,

Flakie Friday - Emily de Molly The Rapture

Friday, 1 May 2015

Happy 1st Day of May!  The next week or two is going to be a little bit crazy for me (well really it's just a continuation of the crazy that has been happening) because we are moving to Queensland!  Ahhh!  How crazy and exciting.  My partner has accepted a promotion with his work so we have packed (and will still be packing our by the time this post goes live) and are heading north.  I have spent countless hours cutting up bubble wrap and wrapping polishes, plus painting my nails and swatching like a mad woman in hopes not to fall too far behind, so I do apologize if I disappear slightly.  I promise I will be as active as my lack of internet (and time) will allow.

Enough rambling about the whole moving thing, lets get into the good stuff - flakies.  I recently received my order from the sample/LE sale that Emily de Molly had which resulted in my rearranging all of my EdM collection to fit in it's new family members.  Of course I stopped and drooled at all the untried pretties and decided it was time to break out The Rapture.  This polish is part of the Back To Bases trio which was released back in December 2014 (can you please it has been sitting untried in my drawers for that long?).  It has a very dark blue base with copper/pink/green/gold colour shifting flakes and pink micro holo glitter.  The formula is super easy to work with and is opaque in two coats.

I completely forgot to do a mattified version of this mani and to be honest I don't think I would have liked it as much as I love the shiny version.  It's just so pretty.  I really need to wear the other two polishes in this trio.

This polish is available both on its own and as part of the trio from Emily de Molly.

Flakie Friday - NfuOh 51

Friday, 24 April 2015

For today's Flakie Friday I thought I should break out one of my favorite flakie polishes, NfuOh 51.  Surprisingly I have only actually worn it once which was probably nearly two years ago now.  There are pictures of the first time I wore it on Instagram (warning you will need to do a lot of scrolling if you want to see those pics).  I am sure you are wondering why would I not wear this polish if it is one of my favorites?  I could ramble on about new polishes and untrieds but I think most of you can relate.  Even though I personally haven't worn it, I have actually painted a couple of people's nails with it so it doesn't just sit unloved.

I decided to wear NfuOh 51 over OPI Tomorrow Never Dies.  This combination is just stunning.  I absolutely love all the colour shifting that can be seen with this combination.  Unfortunately, the weather wasn't giving my much good lighting to really show of this polish properly.  It is going on my "to swatch again later" pile.

Now I actually forget to mattify this mani before I got tip wear (I have spend a good proportion of the day cleaning).  How exciting for me.  So what is your favorite flakie polish?

Flakie Friday - Zoya Opal & Zoya Chloe

Thursday, 16 April 2015

I realized the other day that I have never posted a single Zoya polish on my blog.  Zoya is one of those brands that I love to use but seem to "forget" that I have (don't even ask me how I forget because there really is no answer for it).  So I decided that I would kill a few of birds with the one stone here.  I am introducing Zoya to my blog, breaking out some untried polishes of mine and doing another Flakie Friday.  If that is not a great way on combining things then I don't know what is.

I actually own three flakie polishes from Zoya and had a tough time deciding which one to use first.  So I used two (the third one over my base colour looked like Opal).  I started with two coats of Zoya Suri and then sponged on one coat of Opal and then sponged two coats of Chloe.

And of course we have the matte version.  I really do love mattifying manis.

I really like laying different flakies over each other.  It gives such a cool effect.  I'll have to go digging through my drawers and find some other layering magic.  Sooooo many flakies and so little time.

Flakie Friday - Color Club Snow Flakes

Friday, 10 April 2015

I just realized that this week seems to be focusing on Color Club.  I promise that was unintentional.  I couldn't not swatch the new Color Clubs because they are way too pretty to be sitting waiting for me, and I have been thinking about this combination for ages that it was time to bust it out.  Really I should write "bust it out again" because I have actually worn this combination when I first received these polishes back in 2012/2013.  I absolutely fell in love with it then and I have fallen in love with it all over again.

So what is this combination I am babbling on about?  Well it's the gorgeous Color Club Snow Flakes over Color Club Glitter Wonderland.  I adore Glitter Wonderland on its on but adding Snow Flakes and *insert emjoi hearts*.  Love love love.  I applied the first coat of Snow Flakes normally and then sponged the second coat on for extra flakie goodness.

And of course, the matte version,  These are the type of flakies that I like matte, rather than the metallic ones like I have shown over the last couple of weeks.

So which do you prefer - matte or shiny?  This one I am completely on the fence about.  I love them both equally.  Now I am not sure if Snow Flakes is still available or not.  If my memory serves me correctly Color Club actually changed the polish to iridescent glitters instead of the flakies which is such a shame.  It's such a beautiful flakie polish.

Flakie Friday - Glam Polish Comet Storm

Thursday, 2 April 2015

Happy Friday!  What has everyone got planned for the Easter long weekend?  We are off to Geelong to visit today which is always good.  Hopefully the weather is nice enough for a stop at the beach or something as well.  That is definitely something we'll have to play by ear because who knows what this Melbourne weather is doing at the moment.  Saturday is a family fun day at my partner's work and then home to bake carrot cake for the Easter Bunny.  Of course Sunday will be filled with Easter Egg hunts and eating chocolate. Yum!

For today's Flakie Friday I decided to bring out one of my newer flakie polishes - Glam Polish's Comet Storm.  This polish was actually given to me by my good friend Margaret (@m_a_tom over on Instagram.  If you don't already follow her then you definitely should).  I love it!  It's a clear based polish filled with lots of purple and multi coloured flakies.  The formula is easy to work with.  I used three coats over black.  It's not entirely opaque but I think if it was sponged on it probably could be.

And of course, Comet Storm mattified.

I definitely prefer this polish in its shiny form.  In fact, I think I prefer the more foiling flakie shiny and the opal like flakies as matte.  I'll have to break out a more opal looking flakie for next week to test my theory.  Which way do you prefer your flakies?

Flakie Friday - Emily de Molly Sample 66

Friday, 27 March 2015

Oh Fridays, how I love you.  As a stay at home mum I don't really have a "weekend" as such but I do get to have more family time which is a huge plus.  And what better way to wrap up the week and kick start the weekend than with some untried flakie goodness?  I don't think there is.

This week I decided to pull out Sample 66 which I received as a gift with purchase from Emily de Molly. Now I do apologize that this isn't a regular release polish but it's just so pretty that I couldn't help but share.  For my swatch I needed three coats for it to be opaque.  I think next time either using a base colour or sponging it on could be the way to go.

And of course with all flakie manis you must add a matte top coat.  I used OPI Matte Top Coat.

I love everything about this polish.  The colours in it, the colour shifts, the flakies... so much love.  I am really not sure why this polish was never released.  Speaking of unreleased/sample polishes, Emily de Molly is having a sample and limited edition sale this Sunday March 29th at 11am.  I have seen a couple of swatches of some of the limited editions and I desperately want them.  Fingers crossed everyone can get what they want in this sale.  I sense it is going to be a mad house.

Flakie Friday- Powder Perfect Vault Of Heaven

Friday, 20 March 2015

Welcome back to Flakie Friday!  I had a little trouble deciding which flakie polish to pull out next so I thought I would go to the newest one in my collection - Powder Perfect's Vault Of Heaven.  It's not a full on flakie like the combination of flakies I showed last week but it is gorgeous.

Picture taken in lightbox

Vault Of Heaven is described as a beautiful indigo holographic polishes filled with amazing ultra chameleon chrome flakies.  And yes yes it is.  I really don't think my pictures do this polish the justice it deserves.  The formula is amazing too.  Two coats is all that was needed for full coverage.

Flakies and holos make such a beautiful combination don't they?  I am in love.  This polish is still available from Powder Perfect and is worth adding to your collection.

Now the big question, which flakie polish/es should I wear next?  Decisions, decisions.  If you have any suggestions let me know.  I would love to hear them.

Flakie Friday - Nubar 2010 & NfuOh 54

Friday, 13 March 2015

Welcome to the first Flakie Friday!  What is Flakie Friday you ask?  Well it's a new little series I have decided to start here on my blog.  I have a ton of untried polishes in my collection (which I aim to start getting through more this year) and a whole bunch of them are flakie polishes.  I absolutely love flakies so why they sit untouched in my drawers is beyond me.  Now every Friday (for how long I don't know yet) I will be breaking out the flakies!  Woohoo!

Nubar 2010 and NfuOh 54 over Nubar Peacock Feathers
Now I know that I have already posted this one on Instagram a couple of weeks ago but it's just too stunning now to post on my blog too.  That and I have extra pictures that I never put up on Instagram so doing a blog post is perfect.

To create this look I first painted on Nubar Peacock Feathers (which I was hoping was much more duochrome like on the nail but the second coat made it rather dark so you couldn't see the colour shift as much - but maybe that was because of my lighting).  I then painted one coat of NfuOh 54 and then sponged two coats of Nubar 2010.  I absolutely love this combination.  I can see me layering more flakies in the future.

Of course when you wear flakies you have to use a matte top coat as well.  I'm sure there is a law about it somewhere.  I used the OPI Matte Top Coat.

I love flakies!  I love them shiny and matte.  I just love everything about them.  Now to decide what flakie polish (or polishes) I should wear next.  If there is any that you want to see let me know in the comments below.
